More File Formats On steekR

August 30, 2007

logo SteekR The fancy new slideshow module on steekR also received a major backend revamp. It now supports dozens of formats, from the ubiquitous extensions jpg, mp3 and avi to the popular png, tiff, aac, wma, ogg, asf, mp4 or flv but also the more obscure formats like C93, DXA and CRI ADX ADPCM. I am sure the latests are very useful too :-)

You can try the new slideshow here. Click the checkbox Select 24 items, then click the Play button in the black toolbar.

The Image tab will display the only image file in the selection.

SteekR audio player If you select the musique tab–the one with the musical note–you’ll be able to listen to an excellent album, available here under a Creative Commons licence.

The magic behind the support for all these formats comes from FFmpeg, an open source “complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video.” The list of supported formats is here.

When will you support the .rm and .rmvb file formats?

    Freedrive,

we support everything Flash and FFmpeg support. The support for RM and RMVB is not very reliable in FFmpeg, but I’ll ask our dev team to investigate.

I’d say we’re similar in many ways, but the ease of use, multiplatform compatibility and affordable pricing make us a much better fit for the end-users.
