March 19, 2008
Steek online storage specialist manages data of more than 1 Million users.
These data are stored anonymously but also in an intelligent way allowing Steek to store also additionnal informations (”tag”) about these files.
Useful informations can be extracted from this and thus Steek has decided to publish regularly an observatory of digital content.
The first edition of this observatory is dedicated to digital picture.
On more than 2 millions photos:
- 2% are without date stamp;
- 0,5% are shooted in the futur (up to 2756!);
- 97,5% of the photos seems to have a reasonnable date stamp.
Concerning the camera provider, here are our ranking:
- Canon 23%
- Sony 14%
- Nikon 9%
- Olymus 8%
- Fujifilm 7,5%
- Panasonic 6,5%
First gsm-photo camera provider: Sony Ericsson
Concerning the camera ranking:
- Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL
- Olympus E-500
- Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL
- FinePix A205S
- FinePix4700 ZOOM
- Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9
- Nikon Coolpix E5700
- Panasonic DMC-FX10
- Canon PowerShot A80
- Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P92
that only count for 15% of the total used cameras.
It just shows that there are a lot of models in the market and maybe the TOP10 models are not the best sellers but rather the more used (as they rather target experienced users).
Concerning the pictures definition:
- 36% of the photos have a definition lower than 2 millions pixels;
- 17% of the photos have a definition between 2 and 5 millions pixels;
- 47% of the photos have a definition bigger than 5 millions pixels.
Conclusion: today we use mostly recent cameras with the largest defintion available…
