Communiqué de presse: F-Secure acquiert Steek SA
July 10, 2009

‘I am very proud to announce the release of the new service Steek Backup’ explained Christophe Camborde, CEO of Steek. He added ‘my mother can sleep now that she knows she won’t loose my kids’ pictures’.
How does Steek Backup Work?
The files are copied from your computer to a secure server hosted on a data center directly accessible from your ISP network. Steek Backup automatically selects the important files and will back them up silently, but customization of the selection can be done at any time.
The backup is a continuous process, working as a background task. The software monitors for file changes or file additions on the PC and adds them automatically to the upload queue.
The restore process can be performed in exactly the same way. You can restore automatically all the files or select one or more specific items.
How to subscribe to Steek Backup?
Steek Backup is a subscription service, € 59 per year. To subscribe you need to first visit the Steek Backup web site at www.steekbackup.com and complete a form to make an online payment of 59 € (Visa, CB or Master Card). Once the payment is confirmed, you will receive an activation key and a link to download the software Steek Backup. Steek announce BigSister, the generic digital life storage.
April 1, 2009
Steek BigSister is a system that is about to be deployed to aggregate and record all your digital life.
“We strongly believe that BigBrother time has come: our life is fully digital now and everything needs to be aggregate and stored.”, explained Christophe Camborde, CEO of Steek,”Everyday, you take the metro and your metro trip is logged. You take your car and your GPS logs your travel, you use itunes and itunes records your MP3 playlist, you send or receive SMS and so on.”
Steek BigSister will be connected to the major digital information providers like transportation or metro system, ISP, Mobile operators, insurance systems, banks, etc…
“We think we can compete with Google! Google already store and gather all these informations, we, Steek, can provide a better organized and explicit system for the well being of everybody.” also added Chrstophe Camborde.
System will be first deployed in France and then Europe. Autorisation by the CNIL (independent French administrative authority whose mission is to ensure that data privacy law is applied to the collection, storage, and use of personal data) is currently under consideration. Steek also has opened a complaint to the European Commission in order to stop data removal. “Data removal is a major loss for everybody”, added Christophe Camborde “this is our life, may be even more important that our real life, we cannot accept that digital stuffs are deleted. Especially as we are ready to store everything!“.
Soon to come, an IPO will cover the financing of this major storage operation on the Paris Stock Exchange, HKSE in summer 2009 for a value exceding €500M.
Steek setups a storage platform in USA to develop American operations
November 13, 2008
Steek has installed a full storage platform located in Washington DC to support Steek north American operations. This platform already provides online storage service to local customers.
“I am very pleased: Steek is now fully operational in North America, we have the service operational and also organized a local support to push the development of Steek here”, explained Christophe Camborde, CEO of Steek. “USA and Canada are a major target in the development of Steek. My aim is to drive Steek to the worldwide leader position in the retail online storage business. And this requires a strong position in the US.”.
Steek hits the 2 million users mark
October 8, 2008
Steek S.A. the leading provider of online storage solutions to Telco operators, ISPs and integrators, says it now reckons with more than 2 millions users of its online storage & backup services.
Paris, France – October 8th, 2008 – Steek says it now has more than 2 million users. The company explains that the growth is fuelled by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) implementing its solutions and by the increasing number of ISP subscribers constantly producing content and seeking to share and protect that content from loss and theft.
Christophe Camborde, Steek CEO explains “our objective is to convince more ISPs and integrators to implement our platform so that they get a decisive competitive advantage against pure players.”
Jean-Michel Gobet, Steek Marketing Director adds “Steek Backup, the Company’s online backup service, provides the right Premium offer for any ISP: it offers a really simple online backup service to end-users: installation with no user intervention required and all the personal documents stored on the Mac or PC hard disk backed up without limit”. Gobet concludes “in the coming months, Steek will dramatically increase the number of users simply because we offer the right set of online services to ISPs.”
The company has recently taken steps to muscle up its worldwide presence. Steek now operates datacenters in Paris, Bordeaux, Washington DC and Singapore to provide local service to its global customers.
