Alice officially launched Alice Back-up powered by Steek

It is official (press release in French) and Alice is the very first in the world to offer Unlimited Online Backup (have a look at the Backup page within the options page) to its customers.
We are very proud to see our Steek Smart Backup product live and as it is the first launch also very confident that this product will have a huge success because customers need is there!
Like everywhere in the world, Alice broadband Internet subscribers have thousand of pictures in their computer… and they need a simple and effective way to save these pictures but also all their files and contents (office docs, video, music, emails, …). That is why we develop this product and we are very confident that Alice in only the first of a long list of ISP to deliver such a customer espected product!

We will upgrade our service today: SteekR will move to a new version V2 one year after its launch.
This new version will provide you a new richer interface with more features:
- Access up to 50 files per page
- Sent and received shares are split into 2 different tabs
- File selection process is optimised and more efficient
and also provides you new features like:
- New multimedia player
- More sharing and publishing options
- Create your own widget and publish your content on your personal page.
Due to this version upgrade, access to your SteekR service may be temporarily affected today.

Steek to innovate with a new Backup service

Steek will soon deliver a new online backup service particulary innovative!
Innovation in our case is not linked to a specific technologic and complicated feature but Innovation is developed in order to deliver a particulary simple and easy service.
The new SteekUP service is aimed to address the everybody target and allows everybody to easily back-up all their digital content without any particular knowledge of computer.
No need to understand what is an hard disk, where my data are stored and when to schedule bakcup. The new SteekUP handle everything because what concerns everybody is to save their pictures, musics, etc…

The new version of SteekR, that we call V2, is still in beta (http://beta.steekr.com/).
We have developed this new version to simplify everything and primarily to improve the usability of SteekR. All the improvements we have included are driven by the feedback of a significant number of our (more than one million) customers.
The general design of the main page of SteekR has been modified in order to provide more room for the files and also to put all the main functions together:

For example the menu bar is now more explicit: easy functions are clearly labeled with more easily understood icons:

Sharing files is much more faster and easier to remember with the new V2 beta. The sharing window with V2 beta is displayed on top of the page without any page reload like with version V1. More options are offered to the user: An information reminder (”Share the selected files with friends or create a sharing widget”), the possibility to add title, direct access to permalink and the style of the share (folder or slideshow). We definitely think that sharing is one of the main feature of SteekR and the usage will be increased with the new functionnality.

We have also improved the usability of the player. The new player is more readable and easy to use. Along with sharing, we also believe that streaming is also a major feature of SteekR and deserved improvement:

Some new features are also added inside this new version like the “Create a widget” feature that allow the SteekR user to display his file selection on a website or a blog.

Important message from the steekUP team

The AVG antivirus technical support department just informed us that
one of its recent automatic updates triggered a faulty virus detection
on the “libcurl.dll” file in use for the st software (Update
N°269.16.10 released on November 28 2007).
The last update for the AVG 7.5 antivirus software (N°269.16.10/1160 - November 30 2007) solves this faulty detection.
In the case you encountered this false virus detection, indicating
the “libcurl.dll” file as contaminated by the NTW2434 virus, please
follow the following steps to get your steekUP software running back
again :
Plase make sure that you have upgraded your AVG antivirus software
with the last update (right click on the AVG icon that appears on the
system tray, and select “Check for updates”).
1 - Either the “libcurl.dll” file has already been placed in the virus vault :
- open the AVG virus vault (System tray –> Right click on the AVG icon –> Launch AVG Test Center –> Virus vault)
- Select the “libcurl.dll” file.
- Right click on the file > Restore File(s)
2 - If the file has already been healed by AVG 7.5 :
Please uninstall the steekUP software and run a new setup.

SteekR DriveDrive Updated

An important update to SteekR DriveDrive beta was released on the 5th of October, but we kinda forgot to announce it here.
Without further ado, here it is:
- The virtual drive is now seen by most Windows applications.
- Applications can open and save files directly on the online drive.
- Deleted files are moved to the online Trash folder.
- Connection parameters are now available in the contextual menu.
